During the zero hour of the ongoing monsoon session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Deoghar MLA Narayan Das appeals to set up a garden of Bel and Rudraksha trees. In his proposal, he highlighted the importance of Bel-Patra in the holy city of Baidhyanath Dham and its high consumption in the temple.
The MLA supported his demand by saying that such a garden will benefit the regional priests and others, who currently have to travel to far and inaccessible forests for collecting Bel-Patras.
Deoghar is abode to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and hosts lakhs of pilgrims every day during its world-famous Sravana Mela. In the holy month of Sravana, local priests organise a Bel-Patra showcase in the premises of Baidhyanath Temple each Monday, where one can witness various unique Bel Patras collected by them. Bel-Patra and Rudraksha have a great significance in Hindu mythology, and thus both are considered very sacred among Shiv devotees.
